The analysis of modern approaches to the treatment of post-stroke spasticity was done. The efficacy and safety of BTA in this category of patients were studied. Study group comprised 17 patients with post-stroke spasticity of the upper limb, control — 23. The causes of spasticity in study group were cerebral infarction in the carotid arteries (15 patients) and intracerebral hemorrhage (2 patients). The majority of patients of the control group — 18 cases (78.3%) had spasticity due to cerebral infarction in the carotid arteries. All patients of the main group received treatment with botulinum toxin type A (BTA). BTA dose ranged from 500-1000 IU. All injections were performed successfully without complications. As a result of treatment and rehabilitation therapy using BTA significant difference to reduce muscle tone and intensity of pain treatment group compared with the control group was found. The severity of flexor spasms was significantly lower after a course of rehabilitation patients in both groups, especially in the study group.
